The right material for every application

Sealing

There are many ways to seal a system reliably. The key to success is always finding the right material. This is because sealing out dust or aggressive liquid media requires different properties of the sealing material.

At KÖPP you have a comprehensive choice of materials, designs and processes. We offer our customers a huge range of sealing variants, including cellular rubber, polyethylene, sponge rubber, formed-in-place seals and many more. And of course, we also offer our solid expertise, so we can work together to find the perfect solution for your application.

Dust protection

Casing seals for electronic components must meet a wide range of requirements. While air conditioning systems primarily require cleanliness and microbial purity, turbochargers require extremely high temperature resistance. The first choice for air conditioning systems is polyethylene, while it is better to seal the turbocharger with silicone.

The filter materials VYON®and GURON® offer open-pored protection for electric casing, which keeps out dust but allows heat and air to escape.

All our products such as cellular rubber, sponge rubber, solid rubber, FIPFG and FIPG offer reliable dust protection, e.g. for indoor and outdoor lights – and of course for LEDs. The broad KÖPP range also includes sulphur-free qualities.

Protection against liquid media

To provide reliable protection against liquid media, sealing materials face many challenges. For tank seals, cellular rubber and sponge rubber in NBR or CR quality have proven successful, as they are resistant to minerals and fuels. Seals made from these materials also offer protection against aggressive acids for air conditioning systems.

For agricultural machinery, NBR or CR qualities of cellular rubber, sponge rubber, or solid rubber have been popular among our clients for years, to protect against slurry, acids and highly concentrated cleaning agents. Other areas of application:

  • Sanitary facilities, swimming pools (chlorine, lime, acid), Domestic bathrooms and toilets (overflow, drains), Fittings
  • Household devices (seals for white goods, oven seals)
  • Ship and container seals (sponge rubber with a strengthened outer skin)
  • Car manufacture: brake lights, rear lights, door modules, steering columns, water boxes
  • Medicine: surgical instrument trays (disinfectant), drips, surgical lights

IP rating

The right solution for every IP rating

All our materials are suitable for use to suit IP ratings. However it is worth noting that IP ratings only apply to the entire assembly or component.

The protected systems are categorised into protection classes indicating how suitable they are for different ambient conditions.

Find out IP rating

Individual protection classes are always made up of a combination of two numbers (one from each table) e.g. IP67. The letter K indicates equipment especially for road vehicles. The combination of numbers states the protection in accordance with this table. This means that a component that is IP67 would be completely dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion.

Electrically conductive seals

EMC/ESD seals

Electrically-conductive sealing materials are required for an increasing number of applications, where electromagnetic charge must be avoided or conducted away.

KÖPP offers you various EMS and ESD systems to choose from. EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility, to conduct away harmful charges. ESD describe the property of dissipating electrostatic charge – i.e. anti-static – to protect the assembly from interference. In the electronics sector, seals for circuit boards and displays are reliably fitted with our PE special qualities. FIPG is a tried and tested option for monitoring in the medical sector.
