FIPFG sealing system

Precision sealing

The FIPFG (Formed-In-Place-Foam-Gasket) system, also known as the reaction gasket system, involves the application of a gasket directly to the gasket seat on the workpiece. We use two-component polyurethane foam in liquid or thixotropic form. The result is a highly elastic, precision, cost-effective gasket. The FIPFG can be used to make gaskets of practically any shape or form.

Use of a FIPFG sealing system

The FIPFG (Formed In Place Foam Gasket) is applied by a user-programmable shaping robot. Wilhem KÖPP Cellular Rubber was one of the very first companies to recognise the potential of applying a gasket of any shape directly to the workpiece. We were one of the first to introduce and perfect FIPFG systems and technology.

Important factors in obtaining a high-quality, uniform seal are a perfect match between the application robot and the reaction process and a very good knowledge of surface chemistry.

FIPFG sealing systems are now found in a wide variety of applications. Modern automobiles use highly complex electronic and electrical systems which would be unthinkable without the reliable seals provided by FIPFG. The complex, free-form shapes of headlights and automotive lighting system would be virtually impossible without FIPFG seals.
Many other sectors of industry now recognised the cost and quality advantages of systems which apply seals to the workpiece in situ.

Guaranteeing a perfect fit between a component and its seal opens up new possibilities in terms of storage, processing and design. Cost reductions are guaranteed, too. Our robots work in three dimensions applying FIPFG seals wherever you want them. We will apply gaskets to your plastic, sheet metal and metal workpieces. Alternatively, we can supply a complete, one-stop service and supply you with the workpiece and gasket together.
